What it is
BLACK is a Windows desktop browser project focused on reducing persistent browsing data and providing practical privacy controls.
What it does
A native browser shell built on CEF/Chromium, with session cleanup, cookie controls, bounded tracker filtering and related browser controls. Search uses configurable external providers; BLACK is not its own search engine.
What I built
- Native browser shell with tabs and navigation
- Per-run temporary browser profiles and session cleanup/recovery
- Third-party cookie controls and bounded tracker filtering
- Permission controls, bookmarks and downloads
- Secure credential/autofill storage
- HTTPS-oriented navigation and certificate-error handling
- CEF sandbox integration
- Development-stage WireGuard, Windows Filtering Platform and partial DoH/VPN DNS paths
Architecture
A C++20 Win32 desktop shell embeds CEF/Chromium. An optional Node.js/TypeScript/Fastify control plane uses PostgreSQL and Redis. The optional control plane is separate from the local browser shell.
- 01Windows desktop shell (C++20 / Win32)
- 02CEF / Chromium browser runtime
- 03Per-run browser profile and privacy controls
Engineering highlights
- Coordinating browser-session lifecycle and privacy controls across a native shell and embedded browser engine.
Current status and limitations
Active Development
- BLACK is in active development. Its WireGuard and DNS work remains development-stage and is not presented as a production VPN service.
- Search uses configurable external providers; BLACK does not operate its own search engine.
- The project does not claim anonymous or untraceable browsing, complete fingerprint protection or Tor-equivalent privacy.
